Brooke’s Bitchin’ Road Trip: The Palmetto State 🌴South Carolina Pixelated Quilt Pattern

Welcome back, road-trippers! This week, our virtual journey brings us to South Carolina, affectionately known as The Palmetto State. Whether you’re strolling the cobblestone streets of Charleston, enjoying the Atlantic breeze in Myrtle Beach, or sipping sweet tea on a porch swing, SC has a way of making you slow down and soak in the sunshine.

Quilt Inspiration: The Palmetto State

This photo features The Palmetto State Quilt which is a pixelated design of the state of South Carolina.
The Palmetto State- South Carolina Pixelated Quilt Pattern

When designing my Palmetto State quilt pattern, I was inspired by the bright and cheerful colors that remind me of long beach days and golden southern light. I chose vibrant pink, yellow, green, and blue batik fabrics to reflect South Carolina’s bold, breezy personality. Think: beach towels, summer skies, and magnolia blossoms!

This pixelated quilt is part of my Home Pattern Series, and just like all the others, it includes:

  • A throw-size quilt design

  • Two mini quilt options

  • Appliqué templates for both mini quilts

  • And an appliqué heart you can place on the city you call home

Whether you’re a South Carolina native or simply love its coastal charm, this pattern is a joyful way to stitch sunshine into your sewing room.

Fabric Tips & Ideas

Looking to recreate the cheerful cover version? Try:

  • Bright batiks for an eye-catching pop

  • Tone-on-tone prints in tropical colors for added texture

  • Dig through your stash for lively sunset shades or beachy aqua tones

Want a coastal cottage vibe instead? Soft pastels or sandy neutrals also make this pattern shine!

Fun Facts About South Carolina:

  • Charleston is one of the oldest cities in the U.S., founded in 1670.

  • The state tree—the Sabal Palmetto—is featured on the state flag (hence the nickname!).

  • South Carolina is home to the only tea plantation in North America: the Charleston Tea Garden.

  • Sweet tea was born here… and honestly, we’re better for it. 😎

Explore the State!

Here are a few must-see SC destinations to inspire your next adventure (or quilt retreat!):

  • Myrtle Beach Boardwalk – Family-friendly fun, oceanfront arcades, and live music.

  • Brookgreen Gardens – Sculptures, live oak trees, and seasonal blooms.

  • Congaree National Park – A hidden gem for nature lovers and hikers.

  • Hilton Head Island – Ride bikes on the beach and enjoy Lowcountry cuisine.

  • Charleston – Rainbow Row, carriage rides, and unbeatable southern charm.

Whether you're traveling the Palmetto State in person or by patchwork, I hope this week’s stop adds a little sunshine to your quilting journey.
