Welcome back to Brooke’s Bitchin’ Road Trip, where we’re stitching our way across the U.S. one pixel at a time 🚗💨This week, we’re stopping in Kansas — The Sunflower State, and let me tell you… this one glows.

🌻 Meet The Sunflower State Quilt Pattern

Kansas-inspired quilt design The Sunflower State pixelated quilt pattern

Kansas is known for its wide-open skies, endless fields, and iconic sunflowers that seem to stretch forever toward the horizon. That’s exactly the feeling I wanted to capture in this pixelated quilt design — warm, grounded, and full of heart.

For the quilt pattern cover, I chose gold yellow, orange, deep red, and green, and every color tells a little Kansas story:

  • Gold yellow — the unmistakable sunflower 🌻, symbolizing warmth, resilience, and Kansas pride

  • Orange — inspired by glowing prairie sunsets that light up the sky at golden hour

  • Deep red — a nod to the rich soil and hardworking agricultural roots of the state

  • Green — representing rolling fields, growth, and life across the plains

Together, these colors create a quilt that feels bold, welcoming, and deeply connected to the land.

🧵 Fabric Tips to Make Your Kansas Quilt Shine

Let’s talk fabric — because this color palette is a dream.

Try these ideas when pulling fabric for your Sunflower State quilt:

  • Mix small-scale florals with solids to echo sunflower fields

  • Use gold or orange batiks for extra depth and glow

  • Add textured greens (linen-look or crosshatch prints are gorgeous here)

  • Choose warm neutral backgrounds to let the sunflower colors pop

💡 Pro tip: This pattern is precut-friendly and stash-friendly — think of your fabric like Legos and have fun building your own Kansas masterpiece.

  • Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve — sweeping views and endless inspiration

  • Monument Rocks — dramatic limestone formations you don’t expect to find in Kansas
