This week’s rest stop on Brooke’s Bitchin’ Road Trip isn’t tied to a single state—but to all 50. As Memorial Day approaches, I wanted to take a moment to slow down, reflect, and share a quilt pattern that holds deep meaning for me: And the Rocket’s Red Glare
✨ Behind the Design: A Tribute from the Heart
This pattern was inspired by one very special man—my grandfather.
He proudly served as an Army Sergeant during World War II, and to this day, his favorite song echoes in my heart: The Star-Spangled Banner. Every time I hear it, I think of him standing tall, hand over heart, filled with unwavering pride for his country. That same feeling inspired this quilt.
And the Rocket’s Red Glare is more than fabric and thread—it’s a pixelated tribute to service, sacrifice, and love for the red, white, and blue.
🧵 Design Details That Make This Quilt Shine
This pattern features:
A bold pixelated U.S. map in the unmistakable colors of the American flag
An optional appliqué heart, so you can place it on your hometown, or in honor of someone special
Step-by-step instructions that make it beginner-friendly but rewarding for seasoned quilters too
Whether you’re stitching it for a veteran, displaying it for the 4th of July, or gifting it in remembrance of a loved one—it’s a quilt that tells a powerful story without saying a word.
A Memorial Day Message from Me to You
As we enter this weekend of remembrance, I encourage you to pause. Think of the brave souls who gave everything for our freedom. If you're a military family, know that I see you. I honor your sacrifice.
This quilt is my personal way of saying thank you—and I hope it becomes part of your story, too.
